Documents certified by notaries will be protected against forgery abroad by the Safe Notary Seal
notarurumai.lt. Lithuanian notaries have joined the international initiative of the Safe Notary seal aimed at protection of notarially certified documents moving between countries against forgery by means of special marks.
The project of the Safe Notary Seal has been initiated by the International Union of Notaries uniting notaries of 86 countries. Three dozens – one tenth – Lithuanian notaries have agreed to take part at the experimental state of the project, which is currently taking place. “The Safe Notary Seal is an adhesive label with a special unique number that is impossible to remove without destroying a document. In Lithuania such means of protection are not essential anymore, as here registers and databases, which can be used to check authenticity of documents and their conformity to original documents on-line, are well-developed. However, in many countries of the world technological progress is not so fast, so notarial documents require additional protective means”, says Marius Stračkaitis, President of the Lithuanian Chamber of Notaries.
The Safe Notary Seal provides additional reliability guarantee to a document, information about a notary, who has certified it, and protects a document or its copies against forgery. It is especially important if documents certified by a notary of one country (certificates, powers of attorney, document extracts, document copies, and etc.) pass borders. A notary sticks the safe notary seal to documents or copies certified by him, which are going to move around the same or another foreign country. Each safe notary seal has its own serial number consisting of figures and one or several letters that allow identifying a notary, who has issued the seal.
A recipient of a document – another notary, a bank or any other concerned party – may go to www.uinlsns.com and check whether this seal has really been issued by that notary, who has certified the document or the document copy. The Safe Notary Seal are double, round adhesive labels (88 x 45 mm) made in Spain, which are impossible to forge, and after they are affixed to a document it is impossible to remove them from a document or reaffix.
To check the notary, who has issued the safe seal, go to www.uinlsns.com or read a QR code on a seal by using a smart phone or a tablet PC, having an application for reading QR codes.
